Homeowners Should Take Caution When Hiring Foundation Repair Contractors

While the east coast struggles with shocking earthquakes and devastating hurricanes, Dallas, Houston and the rest of Texas continue to suffer through unrelenting heat and drought. And as new cracks continue to appear in home foundations, phone calls come pouring in to foundation repair companies from across the state.

Drought conditions present the perfect opportunity for startup companies to capitalize on the misfortune of homeowners. In a severe drought like this one, foundation repair companies often spring up like weeds, offering unproven repair systems and sloppy, unprofessional work then disappear into the distance once conditions get back to normal. Unfortunately, homeowners end up spending a chunk of their hard-earned money on these so-called “repairs” and have little to show for it and no one to back their warranty.

If you do find yourself in need of foundation repair work, protect yourself and your home by researching any potential companies ahead of time. Check with the Better Business Bureau to find out about their track record. It is also a good idea to use a company that is a member of the Foundation Repair Association.

Once you’ve made contact and requested an estimate from a foundation repair company, make sure you get that estimate in writing along with a copy of any warranty language.
